From Tattoo to Embroidery: Our Creative Process
- Posted by Flavio Marini
At Marini Ricami 1986 Srl, we are always looking for new challenges and sources of inspiration. Ideas often come from outside the embroidery world. This time, the spark was a photograph of a tattoo: an image that immediately caught our attention because it already looked textile, almost like embroidery etched into the skin.
That image started a creative process: turning a tattoo into industrial embroidery through a journey combining art, technique and innovation.
From idea to embroidery
Looking closely, we saw that the tattoo design already had a three-dimensional effect reminiscent of stitches. We reinterpreted the graphic and translated it into textile form with our Tajima embroidery machines.

Tattoo design that resembles embroidery
The result surprised us: thread and stitches recreated the intensity and energy of the original image while adding the distinctive texture of embroidery.
The embroidery takes shape
After the development stage, we applied the embroidery to a white T-shirt. The contrast between the simplicity of the fabric and the richness of the motif made the idea even more striking.

Embroidery recreated from the tattoo design
This experiment went beyond reproducing an image. It showed how a visual reference can become embroidery, opening up new possibilities for personalisation and design.
From tattoo to fashion: a conversation between art forms
A tattoo is personal and intimate; embroidery is an art form worn on garments, used to communicate and reproduced at scale. Bringing the two together reveals new creative possibilities and shows that inspiration for embroidery can come from anywhere.

Tattoo-inspired embroidery on a white T-shirt
This project shows how we approach every challenge: with curiosity, technical skill and a desire to experiment. At Marini Ricami, we turn ideas and impressions into tangible, high-quality embroidery.
If you have an image, drawing or source of inspiration that you would like to turn into custom embroidery, contact us. We would be glad to help bring your project to life.
